Strategic Plan

In May 2004, faculty, students, alumni and staff of the College of Justice & Safety worked together at a strategic planning conference to form a mission, create a vision and set goals that will guide the program through the next ten years.
Strategic planning is a process to define where the College should be heading and provide direction to keep focused on its objectives. The College’s strategic plan is a dynamic document that will respond to an ever-changing environment and evolve as goals are achieved.

- The College, composed of widely recognized programs, provides innovative teaching, research and service in an inclusive, ethical and collaborative environment inspiring leadership, excellence and a life-long commitment to the principles of justice and safety.
- Vision
- The College has achieved national and international prominence in the production and dissemination of knowledge in justice and safety. Through innovative teaching, the College has provided quality education and inspired a commitment to lifelong learning and service. The College has mentored and produced future leaders dedicated to diversity, social justice and human rights. Through innovative and collaborative research, the College has advanced the body of knowledge in the disciplines related to justice and safety. Through quality service, the College has provided guidance and innovation to advance the well being of the University, the profession, and state and national organizations.

- Ten College goals have been established and the first three listed have been identified as priorities.
- Enhance national prominence
- Increase scholarly work of College faculty
- Increase student and faculty involvement in service projects that promote justice, safety and diversity issues
- Increase external funding
- Develop competency-based curricula
- Produce leaders and leadership in the fields of justice and safety
- Enhance student career placement and provide advancement opportunities
- Increase the number of students engaging in post baccalaureate education and/or employed in a justice and safety career
- Increase the diversity of the College faculty, staff and students
- Strengthen resources that initiate both the research for and development of strategies to improve justice and safety
