Correctional and Juvenile Justice Studies

Academic Advisement

A professor advising a student

Upon declaring a major in Correctional and Juvenile Justice Studies, students are assigned a faculty advisor from the department. Our faculty take advisement very seriously and will see that you receive accurate information about course requirements, career options, and related matters; our adjunct faculty are also an excellent source of information about careers.

There are three basic sources of advisement information at EKU:

Departmental Advising

Once you have declared your major, your academic department is your main source for academic advising. In the Department of Correctional and Juvenile Justice Studies, you can direct questions to your assigned faculty advisor (whose name should be listed on your CARES report), the department’s main office in Stratton 105 (859.622.1155; Janice.Marcum@eku.edu), or any member of the faculty.

EKU Advising Office

The EKU Advising Office located in room 347 in the Student Services Building (859.622.2276) provides another option for academic information. Visit www.advising.eku.edu for information about general education requirements and transfer credit. The EKU Advising Office holds orientation sessions each January and each summer for freshman and transfer students.

Transferring Credit

If you are a transfer student to our program, we will make every effort to insure that as much of your previous coursework as possible transfers to our curriculum. Follow these steps to have transfer work evaluated:

  1. Apply for and gain admission to EKU.
  2. Declare your major in Correctional and Juvenile Justice Studies. You will then be assigned to an experienced faculty member as your advisor.
  3. Have each institution where you have completed credit submit an official transcript to the Office of Admissions at EKU.

To learn more about transferring credit, visit the EKU transfer center or contact Student Services at Student Services Building Room 129 Phone: 859.622.2263
