Correctional and Juvenile Justice Studies

Graduate Program

The department offers a Master of Science program in Correctional / Juvenile Justice Studies as well as a graduate certificate in Correctional / Juvenile Justice Leadership.  Both programs exist in response to increasing demands for qualified professionals in these fields. The fields offer a diverse and growing number of career opportunities, and these programs are unique nationally.  The programs can be completed in either online or traditional classroom formats. 

Graduates of the Master’s program are expected to use analytical and critical thinking to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

  1. Written and oral communication and computer literacy
  2. Application of problem solving to evaluating and synthesizing information
  3. Comprehension of the corrections / juvenile justice field (including the historical, theoretical, and legal foundations of the field; methods of gathering and analyzing information for research purposes; and the major bases of literature)
  4. Organizational skills and professional leadership
