Department Mission Statement

The Department is committed to providing a personalized, high quality educational experience that prepares students for successful careers in adult corrections, juvenile justice, and related human services professions as well as graduate education. Scholarship and service will enhance knowledge and learning and address the needs of corrections, juvenile justice, and other human services agencies.
In pursuit of this mission, student knowledge and skills are developed through a multidisciplinary curriculum that blends theory, research, and practice. The Department is committed to providing a personalized, high quality educational experience that is facilitated by small class sizes, opportunities for laboratory and field experiences, and the use of multiple instructional methodologies and mediums. In order to enhance instruction, the faculty is dedicated to scholarly activities that advance knowledge in relevant subject matters and enrich students’ academic experiences.
Departmental teaching and scholarship activities are designed to further the institution’s service role by responding to the needs of correctional, juvenile justice, and other human services agencies at all levels of government and by contributing to the development of humane and effective programs. Measures of quality and performance shall be used to promote the continuous improvement of instruction, scholarship, and service to ensure that the Department is serving the community and region in ways that advance disciplinary thought and practice.
