Criminal Justice Program

The College of Justice and Safety at Eastern Kentucky University is nationally recognized as a leading academic program in the area of Criminal Justice.

The Criminal Justice Program offers our undergraduate students a broad-based degree program designed to provide them with the skills and breadth of knowledge necessary for numerous professions as well as advanced studies.

Faculty Expertise

The Criminal Justice Program has nationally recognized faculty members who have expertise in a wide range of areas including, drug control, police liability, ethics, administration and management, organized crime, white-collar crime, property crime, international criminal justice, and the media and criminal justice. In addition, criminal justice students benefit from taking a number of their courses outside the CJ program itself exposing them to faculty with expertise in such areas as corrections and private security.

Course Variety

Students majoring in Criminal Justice are required to complete courses related to crime, policing, corrections, criminal justice, and criminal law. They are also required to take 15 hours of additional courses as criminal justice electives on topics such as drugs and crime, family violence, organized crime, and white-collar crime.

After Graduation

Criminal Justice majors throughout the country and in Kentucky are finding employment in all facets of the criminal justice enterprise including public and private policing, community and institutional corrections, the court subsystem, criminal justice research and planning, crime prevention, and victim-based programs (e.g., domestic violence). Our broad-based degree program, taught by leading scholars in the country, also prepares those students opting to continue their studies either at law school or in a graduate program.
