Staff

The Office currently has three staff members.
The Director of Distance Education and Multimedia Services, Tim Matthews, provides leadership for the office. Responsibilities include
- Developing a vision and mission that guides the distance education goals of the College;
- Developing a strategic plan in conjunction with CJS departments
- Providing leadership to assist stakeholders in maximizing the benefits of DE;
- Fostering relationships with the key EKU administrative units that facilitates effective service delivery for students and faculty;
- Developing policies and procedures that guide the delivery of services
- Establishing CJS infrastructure that supports student and faculty services for DE programs;
- Promoting the DE program internally within the College and externally to potential students;
- Working with the College's Office of Technology to assess the impact of and need for technology to meet DE program goals;
- Establishing priority areas to receive DE and media support; and
- Working in collaboration with departments, centers and units within the College to facilitate Distance Education.
An Instructional Designer/Technologist, Mike Johnson, is responsible for developing instructional methodologies through the use of e-learning and multi-media technologies. The position is charged with exploring ways to optimize use of resources; recommending techniques to optimize the learning process through changes in format, content, and methods of distribution; and developing online and computer-assisted methods and strategies that can enhance the quality of the learning process (e.g., developing graphics, tutorials, simulations, modeling, games, and case studies). The instructional designer collaborates with faculty and trainers on instructional design issues; consults with individuals or departmental faculty on optimal design of curriculum and instruction and effective uses of multimedia; and assist with incorporating learner retention and assessment mechanisms to monitor student learning (e.g., online testing procedures).
A Distance Education Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the myriad issues involved in distance education, including recruiting students for the College's online degree programs; assisting students in accessing required university services; providing administrative support to distance education staff and faculty; and working in cooperation with other university departments. The position provides such administrative duties as developing project schedules, preparing and monitoring budgets, developing databases on performance-related and outcome issues, reserving necessary equipment and meeting space, and coordinating all logistics. The Assistant will also be responsible for monitoring the production process to ensure that there is adequate coverage and communication throughout the planning and production processes.
