Assets Protection and Security

The Assets Protection and Security degree program is designed to provide students with the fundamental knowledge necessary to protect the personnel, physical and information assets of corporations and organizations against loss caused by criminal activity, unethical practices and disaster.

Innovative Topics

The Bachelor of Science Degree in Assets Protection & Security was established at EKU in 1977. It provides students with a diversified and balanced program of study that  serves to produce an individual who has the capacity to function in a broad range of positions in Loss Prevention.

In addition to our regularly scheduled classes, the Assets Protection Program offers innovative seminars and workshops on topics such as Special Management Services, Computer Security, Terrorism / Counterterrorism, Hotel / Motel Security, Officer / Personnel Training, and other specially designed programs.

What do Assets Protection Professionals Do?

Assets Protection professionals’ responsibilities may include developing protection policies, conducting staff training programs, auditing corporate compliance, investigating employee misconduct and criminal activities, conducting criminal investigations committed against the corporation, disaster management planning and coordination, safety management, insurance and risk management and other related functions.

Mission and Vision

In 2006 the upper division students majoring and minoring in APS developed the following program vision and mission statements. The vision statement defines what we want our program to be, whereas, the mission statement defines how we intend to achieve our vision.

Vision: A nationally recognized program of professional excellence in assets protection and security education

Mission: Provide a curriculum that challenges and encourages students to develop fundamental professional knowledge, effective written and oral communication skills, critical and ethical reasoning competencies, and a spirit of life long learning to successfully transition into the assets protection and security profession
